Working Principles of Photocell Doors

Photocell doors are the type of doors used in buildings where daily entrances and exits are intense and open and close by themselves by detecting the passers. In this system, also known as an automatic sliding door, there are photocells at the door's top.

People who pass through photocell doors do not need to spend physical power. With the automatic system, entrance and exit are made through the doors that open automatically, and then the door closes again automatically. In this way, hygiene conditions are provided at the maximum level. It is also a preferred system in terms of energy-saving and practical transition.

Photocell Door Features

Photocell doors can be made with materials such as metal, glass, stainless steel, and glass. In fact, there is no limit for photocell doors in terms of the material and shape used. For this reason, we can come up with many different designs.

This type of door is very stylish in appearance. Since it has a comfortable use and elegance, it is frequently used in large and institutional buildings. It is highly possible to see photocell doors in hospitals, airports, shopping malls, government institutions, hotels, and big markets.

They are suitable for hygiene rules since they provide automatic transition without using physical force. For this reason, photocell doors have gained more importance, especially during the covid-19 outbreak.

What is the Operating System of Photocell Doors?

Photocell doors have two wings. The approach of the people who will enter and exit the door is detected with the photo on the door and opens automatically. The door closes automatically after the person or person passes.

The working principles of photocell doors can be examined under four headings;

  • Radar system: Today's operating system of photocell doors works with microwave or infrared frequencies. The radar-based detection system detects the person or objects approaching the door. A low voltage electrical signal is then sent to the control panel quickly.
  • Management system: It is the section that can be called the brain system of photocell doors. How the doors can be opened and closed can be adjusted from the control panel management system. The most used function is normal on and off mode. In this mode, the door opens for passage and closes immediately afterward. Fully closed or fully open modes can be used upon request. For example, it is possible to prevent entrance and exit by closing the door completely at night. In the function known as winter mode, energy savings can be achieved by opening the door wings halfway. There are also functions designed to open the door only for entry or exit only.
  • Wing system: These are the wings that open to both sides when the photocell detects people or objects. The wings can be made of many materials. It is generally prepared with steel profiles. Too heavy wings can affect the speed and quality of opening and closing.
  • Motor and drive system: In this system, which is the most important part of the photocell door, motors with decoders are used mostly. Engine and drive systems work interdependently and affect each other's performance. Settings for the door's operation can only be made following the performance of these systems.

Why Photocell Doors Are Preferred

Photocell doors find more use every day. These doors are preferred at the entrances and interior doors of corporate buildings, plazas, shopping centers, and state and private institutions. It can even be seen to be used in homes.

Photocell doors provide an important comfort above all. Not having to use physical force to enter and exit buildings or interior parts of buildings offers comfort and contributes to institutions' reputation. An important advantage is offered for disadvantaged groups such as the disabled and the elderly.

Since it provides convenience for the passage of crowded groups, congestion, queuing, and chaos are not caused where there are photocell doors. Pedestrian traffic becomes faster and more regular. In places such as markets, shopping centers, and warehouses where goods are shipped, no time is wasted to open and close doors each time. Photocell doors that perceive the loads open automatically, saving time and effort.

Photocell doors save energy by preventing heat loss. Closing the door just after the entrance and exit and the option to use the winter mode contribute to this saving.
